Pinole Artisans Open Discussion
Tuesday, 31 August 2010 20:38

On August 6, 2010, during our regular monthly meeting, members were invited to discuss their thoughts about our organization.

Joyce Yamada graciously agreed to act as facilitator and Vickie Resso took notes.  Below is a summary of the discussion.  You are invited to add further comments, suggestions, concerns and ideas in any way you are most comfortable.  You may write your thoughts in an email, write them on paper and mail or drop them off at the Art Center, or you may discuss any issue with a board member.

It is the Board’s desire to hear the concerns of members so that action can be considered.

TOPICS:

  • The Organization (Pinole Artisans)
  • Pinole Art Center
  • Pinole Artisans Foundation Off-Site Shows
  • General Discussion.

What do you like about the organization?  Why did you join?

It’s a cohesive group with fellowship.

It’s a friendly group.

I feel included in a community.

Acceptance.

It’s a fast-growing organization that has stayed strong.

I like the demos.

My wife made me join.

I enjoy getting to know other artists in the community.

I like learning from other artists.  There is an artistic exchange.

I was able to connect with local artists.

I was able to experience different art forms.

Were your expectations met?

Yes, for the most part.

What do you want offered in the future?

More demos.

More hands-on projects

Bring your own art project and work alongside others.

Get field trips going again.

Read books about art and discuss.

Maybe have art movie nights.

Art Center:

Some concern about not being able to schedule shifts because time slots were booked early.

There are people willing to sit for others for pay.

Can we put some art in the window to attract more people?

Still need to have more foot traffic.

Off-Site Shows:

Some members said they were unable to participate because of time requirements.

Participation fees are too expensive for some.

More information earlier would be helpful about venue and market.

What is our goal?

Are we about selling art or are we trying to enrich our lives?  Why not both?

Selling is important to some.

Many members say that art is important to them.  If they never sold anything again, they would still create art.

We will hold another open discussion soon, we promise!  Constructive criticism, diplomatically expressed is welcome.  Recognizing that no organization is perfect, even ours, we know that some members have legitimate gripes and need to be heard.  Please let us hear from you.

The DISCUSSION WILL CONTINUE!
